Geothermal Energy Rebate Programs

United States Federal Government

The federal government, many states and a number of municipal authorities offer homeowner rebates, tax incentives, and grants to support installing ground source heat pumps. The federal government is offering a 30% uncapped tax credit until December 31, 2016.

Incentives State by State

DSIRE is a database of state incentives for renewables and efficiency. This website provides a searchable database for geothermal incentives by state and is an excellent resource for homeowners.

Canadian Federal Government

The government of Canada has renewed the ecoENERGY Retrofit - Homes program. Until March 31, 2012, homeowners are eligible to receive grants of up to $5,000 to make their homes more energy-efficient.

New Brunswick

Through the Residential Energy Efficiency Program, Efficiency NB provides advice on energy efficiency and financial incentives to help offset the costs of energy efficient upgrades so homeowners can enjoy permanent energy savings. There is no expiry date for the Residential Energy Efficieny Program. It is intended that the program will accept continuous entry of new participants.

Quebec

Hydro-Quebec supports the installation of geothermal systems certified by the Canadian Geoexchange Coalition by providing grants subject to certain conditions. Homeowners may be eligible for the Hydro-Québec grant and/or the Rénoclimat^® grant.

Saskatchewan

The government of Saskatchewan has renewed the EnerGuide for Houses program. The program will be in effect from April 1st, 2011 through October 31st, 2013.

Manitoba

The Province of Manitoba provides financial support of geothermal through a refundable tax credit  and through a provincial grant program.

British Columbia

This offer is available to homeowners in the province of B.C. who have not yet accessed incentives from either the LiveSmart BC or ecoENERGY Programs. Homeowners must have an initial Energy Assessment performed on or after April 1,2011 and complete a follow-up Energy Assessment with 18 months of their initial Energy Assessment or before March 31, 2013, whicher comes first.
