Maritime Geothermal Ltd. is a privately owned business which began manufacturing water source heat pumps in Petitcodiac, New Brunswick, Canada under the tradename NORDIC® in 1983.

Current Management:
Glenn Kaye - President & sales manager.
Laura McPhee - marketing consultant.
Chris Geddes, P.Eng. - CSA Certification & ISO 9000
Dan Rheault, P.Eng - Engineering and development of new products.

1983 - Business Begins
Through a partership arangement, Glenn Kaye, a self-employed businessman and Edna Kaye, a retired business education teacher (also known as "Mom"), made a decision to go into business manufacturing geothermal heat pumps.
Several different ground source designs were studied before deciding upon the system best suited to local conditions.
The first 3 hp Open Loop - Passive Cooling --NORDIC® ground water heat pump was built late in 1983. Initial sales were centered in the Maritime Provinces but by 1985 dealers were established in Ontario, Quebec and Maine, USA.

1988
Chris Geddes joined Maritime in 1988 as a summer student. Chris put himself through university working part-time with the company. He received his Bachelor of Engineering degree in 1995 from the University of New Brunswick and now works for us on a full time basis.

1990
In 1990, Maritime Geothermal Ltd. successfully developed a full line of active cooling or reversing heat pumps to compete in the expanding geothermal groundloop industry. Heating ONLY and reversing Water-to-Water versions in the 2-5 ton range were also developed for application in the quickly developing in-floor heating system market.
Increases in the level of standards demanded by the industry led to the construction of a CSA Certified Testing Facility at the manufacturing plant in 1991. Maritime Geothermal Ltd. is the only geothermal heat pump manufacturer in Canada who has their own CSA certified testing facility. Fully computerized, the lab has the capability of certifying a heat pump to all applicable CSA electrical and performance standards.

1992
As trends in the market shifted, Maritime Geothermal began developing a Direct Expansion system in an effort to decrease costs and simplify ground coupled installations. DX systems are designed to eliminate the use of water by extracting heat from the ground via use of refrigerant loops buried directly underground. The first prototype was installed in 1993 and the first production unit was sold in the fall of 1994. Several US patents for the design and method of operation were obtained at the same time.

1995
As a result on many requests from homeowners who had installed our geothermal units for the normal living area of the home,a decision was made in 1995 to begin manufacturing Indoor Pool Conditioners as a complementary product to geothermal heat pumps. The production of PC units has allowed NORDIC® to fill another common requirement of many modern homes.

1996
Maritime Geothermal began producing much larger capacity "W" series units for the aquaculture industry. Equipment is now available in 12, 20 and 40 HP versions with a heating capacity of over 500,000 Btu's in a single unit.
By 1997 the company was beginning to feel the positive effect of Internet exposure as sales began to increase on a global scale.

1998
Triple function heat pumps (a combination "R" and "W" unit) which provide full capacity hot water as well as hot and cold air via a duct system came on line in 1998 to service the requirement of homes requiring infloor heating and cooling from a single unit. These units are fast becoming our best sellers as more homeowners install radiant heating in part or all of their homes.

2000
By 2000 NORDIC® Energy module style liquid-to-water and DX heat pumps had become popular with many dealers as a direct result of the ease in which a heat pump could now be applied to an infloor heating application. As a manufacturer we are expecting to see sales of the EM modules increase in popularity along with the infloor heating revolution.

2002
With a full line of product available Maritime Geothrmal Ltd.was ready to begin expanding the business by developing markets in Belgium, Ireland and Hungry and establishes a large distributor in Quebec.

2004
With sales increasing each year Maritime Geothermal Ltd. expands into a new 15,000 sq.ft. office and manufacturing facility in Petitcodiac, New Brunswick.  Dan Rheault, P.Eng. joins the engineering team.

2005
Maritime obtains shared testing facility status through CSA for test lab. Lab modified to be able to test to ISO 13256 standard being used by ARI and coming into effect for Canada in 2007.

2006
Through constant innovation, Maritime Geothermal Ltd. is dedicated to providing the highest quality products and the best service to our dealers and their customers.
