Triple Function Heat Pumps
Triple function heat pumps are a combination R and W series heat pump. Heating and cooling is provided via an air duct system controlled from a central thermostat.
Whenever the thermostat is satisfied the unit can automatically switch to hot water mode to supply heat to an in-floor heating system, swimming pool or any other hot water requirement.
A separate heat exchanger provides potable hot water during any run time operation.
Triple Function heat pumps are the solution for a home that requires in-floor heating in part or all of the structure while also requiring ducted cooling throughout the building.
Operation
TF units operate from a main central thermostat which selects the mode of operation (heating or cooling) and the temperature setting. Priority resides with the air duct system of the home therefore the unit can only switch to hot water making mode when the main thermostat is satisfied.
Full In-floor Mode
If a home is entirely piped for in-floor heating then the main thermostat would be set back to a point where heating via the duct system is not called for thus allowing the unit to switch to hot water making mode. The individual room thermostats of the in-floor heating system then become the active controlling devices and maintain the desired temperature in each room.
Partial In-floor Mode
By switching back and forth between air heating and floor heating, the TF unit can accomodate a home that has either a partial or a complete in-floor heating system installed. The TF unit will automatically provide hot air to the ducted areas and also hot water to the in-floor areas.
When cooling is required in summer the unit will automatically switch to hot water making mode during off-cycle periods to produce hot water for other applications such as swimming pool heating.
