Federal Government Rebates
Greener Homes Grant offers up to $5000 plus up to $600 on Energy Advisor fees for the pre and post retrofit evaluations of your home. Geothermal heat pumps must meet certain efficiency requirements and be registered through the program.

Ontario Heat Pump Rebates
Ontario does not currently have any geothermal heat pump rebates.
Nova Scotia Heat Pump Rebates
There are several financing options and rebate options available in Nova Scotia:
Efficiency Nova Scotia offers a rebate of up to $2,500 on the cost of installing a geothermal or air source heat pump through their Green Heat program. The heat pumps must meet certain efficiency requirements, and be installed by a Canadian Geoexchange Coalition Certified contractor. This rebate is open to both electrically and non-electrically heated homes.

Nova Scotia Power also offers a heat pump financing program. Get your heat pump installed by an approved contractor and you could qualify for financing at 7% over 3-10 years. The financing available covers the total price, including installation and taxes.

New Brunswick Heat Pump Rebates
NB Power’s Total Home Energy Savings Program currently offers rebates for existing homes of $2,000 on geothermal heat pumps. The total rebate amount depends on whether you perform other home efficiency upgrades at the same time. The heat pumps must be ENERGY STAR certified and must be installed by a Canadian Geoexchange Coalition certified contractor.
For new homes, NB Power’s New Home Energy Savings Program offers incentives for new construction homes that allow you to save up to 25% of your mortgage loan insurance through CMHC, Genworth Canada, and Canada Guaranty.

Newfoundland Heat Pump Rebates
Newfoundland does not have any heat pump rebates, but you can secure financing for your heat pump project through Newfoundland Power’s Energy Efficiency Loan Program. This program is available for homes whose primary heat source is electric, and the maximum financing amount is $10,000.

Quebec Heat Pump Rebates
Hydro-Quebec supports the installation of geothermal systems certified by the Canadian Geoexchange Coalition. They provide grants subject to certain conditions.

Saskatchewan Heat Pump Rebates
There are no current rebates or incentives for geothermal heat pumps in Saskatchewan.
Manitoba Heat Pump Rebates
Manitoba Hydro offers the Earth Power Loan, which lets homeowners finance up to $20,000 for their geothermal heat pump installations. The loan can be financed for a maximum of 15 years at an interest rate of 4.90%.

Heat Pump Rebates and Tax Credits in the United States
Federal Government
The United States Federal Government offers a 30% tax credit on installations of residential ground source heat pumps until December 31, 2032.
