Electric Boilers

alt source hot water tankHeat pumps that heat water for radiant in-floor heating need a hot water tank to store that heated water. For air source heat pumps (like the Nordic air to water heat pump and the Nordic air to air & water heat pump), that tank should have electric elements in it. The electric elements provide extra heat when temperatures are very low, and the heat pump’s output is reduced.

For NordicĀ® heat pumps, we recommend the AltSource high-volume electric boiler. This hot water tank is a combination electric boiler and storage tank. The largest size can store up to 70 gallons of heated water and provide up to twenty kilowatts of backup heating capacity. Subsequently, this volume and electric capacity are enough to provide full backup heat for the average Canadian home. With that in mind, the AltSource tank is designed for residential use and is practically maintenance-free. The AltSource electric boiler is the perfect back-up energy source to the primary heat pump system. Finally, the tank is controlled automatically by the heat pump itself.

NordicĀ® offers three different AltSource hot water heater sizes, and capacities are available below. If you’re unsure which size hot water heater is right for you, use the product manual for your heat pump to find which size we suggest.
